Why Tethered Exists
A rope pulled by one end can snap. A knot tied between two people holds. This is the story behind that idea.
Where it started
It felt harmless at first
Tethered began with a simple moment: turning 18 and finally being able to join the big fantasy and betting platforms my friends were already using. Sharing referral codes, placing the occasional small parlay, celebrating the thrill of a bonus bet.
But slowly, almost quietly, gambling became routine. Every new promotion, every “limited time boost,” pulled me back in to deposit again.
The pattern
Then I saw it happening to my friends
Friends who had barely been introduced to betting were suddenly depositing more and more, chasing losses and hoping one lucky hit would pull them out of the hole.
The push notifications always arrived right when a game got close. The odds boosts always showed up right after a losing streak. That's how addiction takes root: not all at once, but through repetition, marketing pressure, and the illusion that the next bet will fix everything.

You don't beat them. The targeted ads and endless promotions aren't an accident. They're the business model, engineered to keep people playing, paying, and slipping deeper, and aimed squarely at people who just turned 18.
What we tried first
Willpower and app blockers
After countless conversations about accountability, trying to help each other stay aware, honest, and in control, the first instinct was to fight it alone: delete the apps, block the sites, promise to do better.
It worked for a few days at a time, right up until a craving hit and the blocker was the only thing standing between impulse and a new account. Software can be uninstalled in ten seconds. It doesn't know you, and it can't tell anyone when it's gone.
The name
A knot holds
That's when the idea for Tethered took shape. The name comes from a simple truth: a rope pulled taut by only one end can snap, but a knot tied between two people holds.
The knot in the Tethered mark represents that same idea: a connection that grows stronger and steadier the more it's tested. Not a leash, but a link.
